They're HIRING!!!!

And I hope she gets the job!!!

I shared a while back how Morgan is really ready to go to work. And sorry for all you who disagree....but,we're READY for her to go to work too! Teenagers are EXPENSIVE!!!! I bet that I am not telling some of ya something that you didn't already know! Not only do they totally think that you have an endless bank account, they also feel that you should spend it all on them. lol! Okay, maybe I am exagerating a bit. Morgan is not completely like this, but she does require a LOT! Talking to my friends, their situation is way beyond what Morgan wants/needs. So, I am still thankful for that.

Anyhow, for the past couple of months, we've either called or gone to places seeking employment for her. Keep in mind that she's 15 and there are not too many employers who want to fool with hiring 15 year-olds because of the legal stuff involved.

Yesterday, I thought I'd call a few places to see if they were hiring. Out of about 15 different places, I found TWO places who are willing to hire a 15 year old! Woo hoo!

Hopefully, it will be one of these two places in the NEAR future!

Morgan is soooooooooooooo excited! We're going to go to Sonic later tonight after dinner to fill out an application and she will be going to Braum's tomorrow!

Don't worry, I'll let you know if she actually gets an interview and if she gets one of these jobs!!!

I know we must sound terrible making our 15 year-old daughter work! Hey, I went to work at 14 and I turned out just fine! If you want my opinion, I think I turned out better by HAVING to work and not have everything given to me. Brings me to another fact; my mom was a single parent, she would have never been able to provide for all of my wants.

Pray that the Lord will put Morgan in the right environment. Thanks!

My friend, I am in total agreement with you about this. Morgan will be a better person for having worked, and earned things for herself. I will be praying for God to lead her to the job that is best for her. I love you sweetie, you are a great mom.

I am totally behind you 100%. I think it is important for kids to be brought up with a good work ethic and exposure to working at a young age is a good thing.

I commend you and I can not wait to hear about her experiences!

Good Luck to her!

Oh my gosh..I think that's totally fine! If she is willing to work and is excited about it...then why not! She'll feel so good to have her own money to spend!! I had my first job at 15 (Jack In The Box)!! LOL!

I'll be praying for the right door to be opened for her!

I'm with you all the way friend. Having a 17 year old, I can totally relate. Our daughter works and loves it. I think it builds character, work ethic and helps them learn to manage money.

I worked in high school and college!

We have a good friend of the family who is in college. She has worked at Sonic for years and makes great money with those tips. Good Luck!!

BTW, my 17 year old is expensive but he's so dad gum busy I don't know when he could work. Boo!

I think teenagers SHOULD work; I had several jobs when I was young. The problem with Brittany working right now is between school, church, and track/xc, there isn't enough time in the day to devote to it. Her schedule is crammed full as it is. We may try to find her a part-time job at Chick Fil-A this summer...I like the concept of her working for a Christian-based company. I wish Morgan the very best of luck in finding the "right" job! I know she's destined for greatness, whatever that entails!

Oh this is so exciting. My 14 year old wants me to take him to fill out apps. I keep telling him to hold off---until next year...but just to let you know....I also think Chik Fil A also hires a couple of 15 year olds for each of the stores. I think it is a great idea and certainly don't think it hurts our children to get a few hours in the summer. Keep us posted...I never thought about Sonic...woohoo!

That's exciting my friend! Can't wait to hear if she gets the job. I am so with you on this matter. I started working early and I think I turned out ok :o)

I hope that she gets one of those jobs. I worked at a very young age too and it really helped me out. I loved having my own cash and being somewhat independent. It is a good thing! Teaches responsibility too.

I'm actually really jealous of morgan now! My mom won't let me get a job, and I'm almost 17 years old!
(Sonic sounds like FUN!)

I will pray that she gets the best job for her! I think having her work is the VERY BEST thing you can do for her. My sister and I both worked at 16, plus we didn't get everything handed to us. We are responsible, capable adults because of how we were raised. I thank my parents every day!

You and your husband are doing a wonderful job! :)

This is great news. I agree with you. It teaches them responsibility. My son is 15 and he worked last summer for a fishing guide and made great money and learned some lessons, good ones. So now he is going back this summer for the same guide, he says my son is worth gold to him.

Our boys have mowed lawns, raked leaves, spread mulch, etc. since they were 13 yrs. Our oldest boy has had other jobs, too. We set up a custodial savings account for each one when they were little. When they would get money for birthdays, Christmas, etc., we would put part of that money into the savings account. When they began working, they would put a good portion of that money into the savings account, too.

When our oldest son graduated from high school, we moved part of the money into a debit card account for him. He uses it as spending money during the school year so he won't have to work. Then, each summer he works and replenishes the savings account. He has learned a lot about budgeting his money. We plan to do the same thing with our youngest boy, too!

I hope the job works out for Morgan! :o)

Daphine,
You are not terrible AT ALL! I started working as soon as I could and that is what had a major impact on me when deciding to go to college. I KNEW I didn't want to do that kind of work for the rest of my life! I KNEW I was smarter than my managers (LOL! - Don't most teens think that??) But I knew without a college education that was exactly what I WOULD be doing for the rest of my life!
Good for you! Teens need work experience and its a great time to learn to manage her own money.
I'll keep her in my prayers - keep us updated! :)

Hey Daphine! I think it's great that Morgan is going to try and get a job. I started working when I was 16 and I wanted to work. My parents just didn't have the extra money for things. Not long ago I found some very old cashed checks the bank sent back. I went through them and was amazed that at that age I was already paying for my own doctor's visits, food, clothes, etc.

Good luck to her! I think either of those jobs sound great!

Daphine,

My son started working at 14 at Publix and paid for his own car before he was 15 and had his permit...it has taught a very good work ethic in him and some good principles for money! I say good job!!

Blessings to you!

I think it's a good thing for teenagers to work...it teaches them so much and too, it "should" give them a different perspective about money, responsibility, etc.

Hope she gets the job which she will be the happiest at and a good work environment, too!

Daphine our three children all had part-time jobs in high school, I think it's a good thing for all the reasons that other people have already said. I hope Morgan gets hired soon. She will be an asset to any work place!

I've been working since I was 13 and I don't see anything wrong with it. She'll appreciate how much effort goes into providing for the things she wants when she thinks Oh I had to work 5 hours to buy that or 5 days! *smiles* It's a wonderful point of reference and she'll be able to make better informed choices when she is spending her own money *smiles* Good luck to her!

I started working young too...so young that I can't remember just when. My parent's had their own store and we all had to pitch in and help. Great experience!

I think it's cute that she is so excited. We don't have a sonic here....Oh, how I wish we did. Can't wait to hear how it turns out!!
p.s.-YOU know your daughter best!

I love Sonic, maybe she will get to wear the rollar skates. I love diet van coke. I had a job in high school and loved it. I was pretty drained though since I was involved with 3 sports a year plus worked. She will have a lot of fun though.

work is good for us! God teaches us so much about responsiblilty.

YOu go girl! Awesome Mom!

I think it's great. She'll learn a lot and have actual job experience for a resume.

I watch the parents of the kids in our youth group write check after check for every trip and activity we go on and I can't even imagine how much it all adds up to...even with all the fundraisers we do.

You're a great mom!

I see nothing wrong with it. It teaches them to really understand where and how money comes and it really teaches them the value of a dollar. That is so important. I went to work at 15 for my friends dad who owned a inventory company. We worked on the weekends counting the items on a grocery store shelves. It was easy but responsible work, it had to add up or you counted it again. It taught me so much, I attribute some of my thriftness to that first job.

Good luck to her and i know she will be a great employee.

Having a little part time job is wonderful for teens. It's helps build character, independence, and their self-esteem! I'll say a prayer for her! Tell her good luck and let us know the outcome!

Hi Daphine
I have enjoyed catching up with your blog today. I have missed a lot!
I loved the pictures from the easter celebrations at your church. What a wonderful event. Can I come to your church?!!
The pictures from Morgan's modelling session are really beautiful. I wish her well with her dreams and also with the positions at Sonic and Braums.
I hear you are a fan of American Idol. We took part (as part of the audience) at American Idol at Disney's Hollywood Studios. It really was fun.

I totally agree with you.Working and earning our self makes us a better person. My mother is very stingy about giving pocket money. She says you have a work hard to get some pocket money. And the money I get, I will keep very safely not even spending a penny.I will pray to God to lead her to a job that is best for her.
Keep posting..........

Praise God for parents like you who actually want their kids to earn something instead of feeling entitled their entire youth. I think that is what is wrong with a lot of kids today. And like you, I went to work very young as well. My sister and I both started working when we were 15 and both learned great life lessons. And I must say...I really hope she gets the job at Sonic. Wouldn't that be so cute since that is kind of where it all started. :o)
