Did Ya'll Hear About This?!?!?!?

KFC put out a coupon for a free grilled chicken with a choice of two sides which was supposed to be good through May 19th.

One of my coworkers and her hubby went for lunch - the line was literally out the door. She said that there were people all over the place.

Apparently the coupon was posted on this website and you could print and make as MANY copies as you wanted since they couldn't stop you. In fact, if you happen to like KFC, you could have eaten a grilled chicken everyday 3 times a day for FREE! Oh, and get this! It was also mentioned on The Oprah Show too! Yep, talk about the biggest commercial of all time for KFC.

Anyhow, KFC never dreamed that the coupon would turn out to be so overwhelming. Actually, to call it as I see it....it turned out to be a big mess!!!

First of all, the website "supposedly" crashed and you can no longer print this coupon. Uh.....they didn't think about all the folks out there who had already printed multiple and multiple coupons. Sooo, they came back a couple of days later and announced that they would no longer be able to honor the current coupon at all. This is trip! I've never heard of such a thing. Talk about a mess. I'm not really a fan of KFC. I haven't eaten there in years. I can take it or leave it, but I think the people who really really love KFC will remember this in a negative way.

KFC has actually come up with a new way to make up for the inconvenience caused.

Take a look at this short (one minute) clip from the president of KFC and see what he had to say.

Did any of you get to take advantage of this before it ended so abruptly?

I did in fact hear of this....several of my coworkers printed out the coupon....I didn't participate in it.

KFC is "ok"...I've tried the grilled chicken....again..it's "ok"..the pieces were small and it tasted more like rotisserie chicken.

Hope you had a great day!

I saw it before all the chaos but didn't take advantage of it. I'm not a big fan of KFC.
Hope you had a nice mother's day!

Hey Sis,

I did hear about it on the news. I'm not a KFC girl so I didn't have to deal with the fuss. Now if it had have been Chinese food then watch out! :)

This is hysterical. I'm originally from KY and have been to Colonel Saunders homeplace where there is a huge barn-type restaurant. I'm pretty sure that he is rolling over in his grave right now; I'm also pretty sure that no one in his family talked with an Australian accent!

Thanks for stopping by the blog. Blessings to you in your week.

Hey Sis-

KFC was giving away free samples on April 27th (before Oprah's free coupons).... I am not a huge fan of KFC, but I must say I was impressed; the chicken I had was very juicy and full of flavor.

One of my friends said hers was dry and had not very tasty. Go figure!! I guess it all depends on the restaurant and the cook...I guess it all depends on where you go. I would try it again....mine was very yummy. And I am just as picky as you =)

I'm so hungry after reading this post...seriously, I would love some KFC right now. When did it change to Kentucky Grilled Chicken?

Missed the deal:)

I like KFC chicken, not too impressed with their advertising tactics. I think they need to get a new marketing team.

Wish I would have gotten in on that deal before it was ended. I believe they have to honor the coupons legally.

Happy Mother's Day to you my friend! Much love!

I didn't use the coupon, but i did eat their grilled chicken. I actually really liked it. it tasted pretty yummy, and it was a nice shift from their fried chicken.

I didn't know anything about this. I never eat there either. We like Popeye's. LOL! That's funny though.

Glad you had a nice relaxing Mother's Day!

My friend called me and told us about it. I did print the coupons and gave one to my mom. She tried using it, but they told her the same thing. I just threw mine away because I could take it or leave it. What they'r doing now though is sending out rain checks to whoever goes in w/ one of those printable coupons. I do not want to go through all that trouble for KFC! LOL

I did hear about this fiasco. Since I'm not a big fan of KFC I didn't plan to go anyway, but I do feel bad for those who did.

I love KFC! In fact, yesterday afternoon, we drove there and picked up a bucket for my Mother's Day picnic. We had such a good time and ate till we could eat no more! When we bought the chicken, there was a big sign on the door saying that they could not honor the coupon for free grilled chicken. Hey, at least they're offering rainchecks! Hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day...even if it didn't include KFC! LOL!

Daphine,

I didn't get to take advantage of it but I keep seeing the commercials and thinking the chicken looks really good!

Blessings to you this day!

My mom sent me a link on e-mail but it wouldn't print out for me. We just had a brand new KFC built in our town and my daughter wanted to go, so we have tried the new grilled chicken. It is fine but nothing I want everyday!

free greasy chicken is usually a good thing, but i hesitate to stand in line for an hour to save five bucks

I heard about it but didn't take advantage of it. I am glad I didn't now. I wouldn't have stood in line for it. KFC is good but not that good, LOL!

I agree with Jennifer. The grilled chicken is not that great...just okay. We normally don't eat KFC, but grilled chicken intrigued us. It looked much better in the pictures than it really was! ;o)

I didn't hear about that! My husband has been wanting to try the grilled chicken. Hope you had a great Mother's Day!

Not a big KFC fan...Oh, if only Starbucks could make that "mistake"!!

Hi Daphine
It does sound like a huge mess from start to finish.
We have KFC over here and I quite like it occasionally. I like crispy strips and Jessica likes popcorn chicken. I always wish the food was a bit hotter, it always seems rather cold.

No, Daphine, I didn't get a chance. I had wanted to try the new chicken, too.

I didn't get to redeem my coupon. Maybe I'll go pick up the rebate....

No, I didn't hear about the mess up! I did hear about the free coupon though. Gary LOVES KFC. I would like to try the new grilled sandwhich. Chicken makes me happy!

I still have the original coupon, but I'm undecided about going through the rain check thing.

Crazy, huh!?!

Jill said...

Yes, I heard about this! There were tons and tons of angry people wanting their chicken. I personally don't think the grilled stuff looks good.

Man, I hate that I missed out on that great deal!!

I was able to print a coupon, but it wouldn't let me print more than one copy. You could only print it in a designated timeframe, so the server was very busy. I ended up scanning a copy for my husband. It was good, but a little dry and they must get pygmie chickens, because those pieces were tiny!!! lol
