Facing My Fears!

After reading this post, you may label me as the Worst Mom of the Year!

Let's proceed....

I was supposed to be waiting out by the curb for Jae to get off the bus yesterday. It was very cold and rainy! The time for the bus to come came so quickly that I had actually forgotten about it. As soon as I realized that I had missed the bus by a couple of minutes, I go racing out the door barefoot, like an idiot. As my bare feet hit the wet, cold concrete, I wanted to run back in as fast as I had run out. The concrete was so cold that my feet began to cramp up.

So, I had just missed the bus. Fortunately, my neighbor was nice enough to walk Jae across just as I was getting out there. Okay, so there are kiddos everywhere, right? Well, the kiddos weren't the only ones out! Most of you who read my blog know that I recently overcame my fear of dogs, right? Welllllllllllllllll, God does have a very humorous side, ya know? Lo and behold....the test came on so fast!

As I was standing there thanking my neighbor for walking Jae over, all of sudden another neighbor a couple doors down from us started yelling at the top of her lungs, "Come back here! No! Come back!" You've probably guessed by now what was going on.

Here's comes this ferocious little Yorkie, yapping all the way, charging full speed towards us! Okay folks, the first reaction I had was to run like nobody's business like I have done in the past. I must say that, since this was happening so fast, I had completely forgotten about Jae. As I turned to run, it was like the Spirit instantly reminded me, "I have delivered you from this!" So, I turned again to face this ferocious little beast. As I turned around, I was also reminded that I was about to run off and leave my baby girl. Jae was just standing there looking at me. lol! Still with me? Anyhow, as I turned back around to face him and stood still, he immediately stopped running, but was still heading our way at a walk. We have large lots between us. So even though this was all happening so fast, it still took this little monster (oops! sorry!) some time to make it to us.

Anyhoo...when he finally reached us, I was totally okay and just stood there as he walked around us, sniffing the whole time. I calmly asked my neighbor to take him back to his owner.

Geez! With all the excitement, I had completely forgotten about me being barefoot!

As we turned to walk back into the house, Jae was laughing uncontrollably. She said, "Mom, I am proud of you. You didn't run away." lol! Pretty sad for my seven year old to use a parent's comforting words, huh?

The only thing missing from this post and to sum it all up is a video! LOL!

Yep, this laugh was on me....

I hope that you're enjoying your weekend so far!

Awwww, you poor thing! I have had many days like that...they do get better.

Way to go on over coming your fear. That was a great first test...now, had it been a pit or rot, I would have ran like the dickens.

Daphine -
I am so proud of you! You REALLY have conquered your fear - and what a great lesson for you to learn right in front of your daughter - who has now learned her own lesson about overcoming fear!

Bless your dear heart, I am so proud of you my friend.

I can't help but chuckle (just a wee bit), Daphine, but I do understand where you're coming from! They always say it's best to stare down a dog, rather than run away because he will then know you are the dominant force. Much easier said than done! I am incredibly proud of you for standing your ground and letting that little terror know who was BOSS! God definitely had a hand in that, no doubt, whatsoever! As long as He's with us...what do we REALLY have to fear? I'm sure Jae was very proud of you, as well!

As for me...my hair is all frizzy and I'm freezing! :) We just returned from Brittany's track meet and it was so miserable...you have no idea! We have to go back in about 3 hours for her to run the 3200. I'll be so glad when it's over! I'm not much for cold weather, either! Have a great rest of the weekend! Love ya!

That is an awesome post. Great job standing your ground and not running away...even if you did have barefeet.

That's funny! Glad you listened to God's voice and didn't run away, although that may have been even funnier! Take care!

Way to go Daphine! I would love to see a video of you running out to the bus stop in your bare feet!

You know, I get TERRIFIED of other people's dogs. So you aren't the only one!

Yay Daphine!! I am SO proud of you too!!! I was laughing out loud at how you described him as a "ferocious little beast"! LOL!! Those who don't have fears may not understand what a huge deal this is, but I know how much it must mean to you to be able to do it! Thank you so much for your comment on my post the other day. It meant alot to me. You're a great friend Daphine! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Way to go girl! It's hard for me to imagine being afraid of a Yorkie but we all have our thing that tests us.

Wow...good for you! I, too, am very proud of you. Now...if we can just get you to wear some shoes! LOL

We're having a very cold, wet weekend. I've been cooking all day, though, so I've been toasty warm! :o)

Our oldest son returns to college tomorrow after spending the week at home (Spring Break). I am really gonna miss him!

Blessings...

I just came across your blog and I loved the dog story! Sounds like something I'd do! It was cold and rainy here too yesterday, and I jumped in the car and drove to the bus stop, only to find my neighbor from across the street already sitting in line waiting to get her grandson and my boys too! The day before, I went to pick up my 13 yr old and missed her because she got off at the first stop, instead of her normal one. She got home before I did!!! We're good moms for putting forth the effort! lol

Praise God for overcoming your fear! I, too, have come a long way when it comes to dogs. I still tense up, but I don't run off anymore!

Be Blessed!

That is too funny my friend! But I am very proud of you! I pray the next test is even easier...and maybe you can pass it with your shoes on!

LOL! Sorry I'm laughing. LOL!

Actually I'm very proud of you too. Not only are you cured, but you also heard the Holy Spirit through all that chaos! Yay!

So you do have frost bite now? Geez I've been freezing all week and my feet haven't seen daylight except in the shower.

I wouldn't "stare down a dog" as that can be like a challenge to them but I can tell you from experience that standing still is generally more effective than running.

Wow you've come such a long way overcoming your fears! I'm so proud of you! It's been cold and rainy here, I can just imagine how cold your feet were outside barefooted *smiles*

Hi Daphine
You did great. You are cured of your fear of dogs. Now do you think you could cure me of mine?
Thanks for sharing this story. You have come a long way in just a few months.

Oh Daphine, I laughed really hard at this post but I'm so glad you faced your fear. I laughed because you were about to take off without your daughter and she laughed at you yet was so proud of you. God works in funny ways. I'm glad you overcame your fear though! You should be so proud of yourself!
