My Bucket List

Dirk and I watched the movie, "Bucket List" a couple of months ago and REALLY loved it. My friend, Liz, recently saw the movie and came up with this great idea for us to post our Bucket List. I promised that I would go along if she started it, so here goes;

This was fun, but was also hard;

~~I want to know and be completely satisfied that I did my part as a good and faithful servant. Sometimes, I feel that I lack in this department when I ask myself questions like; Should I have been bolder in talking to a specific person about Jesus? Why won't I take the time and go into the prisons? Should I have volunteered even more of my time insteading of doing something else?

~~I want to own my own little hamburger stand (and I'm not talking about a Sonic or something other chain like that). I know this sounds crazy, but Dirk and I have talked about doing this for the past couple of years. We are not talking about giving up our full-time jobs, but we thought this would be something fun to do in my hometown since there's practically no restaurants there. Well, maybe two or three in the whole city. Seriously! We've already named it..."D&D Burgers" lol

~~I want to go on a month long cruise with my family. We took our first cruise last year and it was truly one of the best vacations we've ever taken. The only problem was it was too short!

~~I want to buy my mom a home that she could call her very own and for her to not rent someone else's. Unfortunately, my mom has never experienced the joy of being a homeowner.

~~I want to open up an endless bank account for my mom so she would never have to worry about money and would never have to work again. Some of you know that my mom was a single parent to me and my two sisters. I don't ever recall a time where she wasn't working hard at one job (if not two) to make ends meet. We didn't have many of our wants met growing up, but we always had everything we needed.

~~I want to make sure that I have written letters to my two girls for several special occasions in their future; their graduation day, their wedding day and the birth of their first child.

~~I want to stand in front of my church and sing, "My Redeemer Lives" by Nicole C. Mullen. Okay, some of you may find this hard to believe.....but I don't talk in front of groups of people. I do EXTREMELY well one with one or just a handful of you. I could totally see myself passing out in front of the church with me trying to get up and sing a song for sure!

Of course there's a lot more...but I'll end it here.

Thanks Liz for starting this. I had fun with it.

Alrighty, anyone who feels like it, please join us and post your Bucket List.

Your list is great! I especially can feel the love you have for your Mother all the way over here in NC. Wouldn't it be wonderful to give to our families the type of life that we would like them to have.

OK, so you have me completely choked up right now!! I was not prepared for this at 5:30 AM!

I love your list, Daphine! Particularly all you would like to do for your mom and your daughters! You are a very special daughter and mom (and wife!), for sure. I, too, would jump at the chance to go on a month-long cruise with my family! We've been on three of them and they ARE the best vacations ever! I am so touched by your wanting to know that you've been a "good and faithful servant". I tell you, when our life is coming to an end, that should be the #1 thing at the top of our list. Actually, it should be at the top of our list all the time! Like you, I would LOVE to be able to stand in front of church and belt out a favorite song of mine like "Blessed Assurance"! Wouldn't that be something??? I always admire those who stand in front of the congregation and sing their lungs out! I think it's especially sweet that you and Dirk would like to own your own burger stand. How fun would that be???

I will definitely have to post my list by the week's end. I need to put my thinking cap on!

Happy Wednesday!!

What a lovely list! I've not seen the movie, so not sure what this is about, but your passion and love for your family is clear. Precious!!

I love your list! My husband and I have talked about doing this also.

Your mom sounds so neat. She is so blessed to have you! You may not be able to buy her a house but I'm sure she knows how loved she is.

The letters to your daughters are a great idea too. It just doesn't seem that our kids could ever fathom how much we love them. If it's in writing maybe it means more.

I can relate to your desire to sing in church. I am so bad that I feel sorry for the people standing in front of me. That doesn't mean I can't make a joyful noise though!!

Hey Daphine! So good to hear from you. I'm working on that testimony post, but it's probably going to be Friday before it's ready! I enjoyed your bucket list. You are such a giving person!

Daphine,

I have seen the movie ~ and knowing you thus far I could see you wanting to do all of those things. You have a precious heart.

I didn't know about the hamburger place and the singing ~ but I would definitely love to buy a burger from ya and somehow I know singing that song would bring you and the Lord great joy!

Blessings to you today!

What a beautiful list. I never saw the movie but had heard of it...so I made myself a "bucket list" which I have on my bedroom mirror. A great way to "take stock" of your life, right?

What a sweet list you've made Daphine. In some ways it's more of a mission statement. You have some great things that you're desiring to do. I'm also blessed with a wonderful mother and I hope that I can always be there for her when she needs anything.

If you open a hamburger stand I will come for a burger!

I've never seen the movie but, after reading your list, I'm going to have to rent it!

By the way, if you decide to get up and sing "My Redeemer Lives" I have the accompaniament track. I sang it in front of my church a couple of years ago and it was great fun and very moving!!!

I would love to buy your mom a house too! Whenever I think of your mom, I always think of her working.....isn't that sad that that is how I remember her?! But, it is a true testament to what a wonderful and strong woman your mom is! She seems like she always works with a smile!

Hey Daphine! That sounds like a great list. I love that song by Nicole Nordeman! What can I say, I love all songs by Nicole. She is one of my favs. I believe you can sing in front of your church. Go for it! God will be there helping you. I hope you get to do others on your list! I would love to do the month long cruise. That sounds like so much fun! Take care, my friend!

I want to hear you sing "My Redeemer Lives" as well. That is one of my favorite songs, by one of my favorite artists. Her music makes me cry, because when I sing it I feel so close to the Lord. So, I'll pray you have the courage someday to stand up in front of the church and bless us with this song. I would volunteer, but no one wants to hear me sing...except thankfully God does.

Love you!
Jen
