One Week Ago Today...

... we brought our Gucci home.

It's been a fun-FILLED week getting used to having a puppy around. Before you ask...No, I am not completely over this huge hurdle yet, but proud to share that I have come a long way, baby!

The girls have told us that this is the best present ever. At least this is the best present for this week! lol! There's been a lot of fighting amongst the girls. In fact, they have fought more since bringing Gucci home than they ever have before. They keep track of whose turn it is next to do different things with Gucci whether it's holding him, carrying him, putting him in the crate, taking him out of the crate, taking him outside to do his business, take him for a walk, etc. There's been alot of aggravation in Morgan's voice with Jae and there have been a lot of tears with Jae. We've already had to make a couple of threats.

Gucci is a very happy (overly excited) little puppy!

I am actually able to walk around the house with him not in his crate. Believe it or not, I can even stand with him right beside me without freaking out. I let him nibble at my sock....but not my bare skin! This brings me to my next statement. It is driving me a bit crazy with all the LICKING going on. Now, that's just nasty (sorry for all you dog lovers). I still need some serious prayer for me to ever allow Gucci to lick on me. I should just see it immediately the way Jae does. She's reminded me several times that Gucci is part of our family and that his germs (licking) are okay. I'm not saying that it will never happen, but I just can't see it in the near future.

I do like him, though. As a matter of fact, one day this week while at work, I was really missing not seeing him. This sounds so weird typing/saying this. God really is a God of miracles.

House training is going great. When Dirk takes him outside to do his business, he usually goes within a couple of minutes, sometimes immediately. I believe it's because he's freezing his hiney off. lol! He loves his crate. At times, he goes into it all on his own. That's his room, his quiet place.

Anyhow, we've taken over 200 pictures, but I'll spare you some time and just share a few of our favorite ones with you.

The picture below is of Dirk's grandpa. We were visiting him at the nursing home.
Gucci is resting quite comfortably in Grandpa's lap.
See! I REALLY am trying!
I seriously think that Dirk has fallen in love with someone else. lol!
Isn't this sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo cute????

Don't worry! I don't plan on posting about Gucci every week!

I have to ask, what's your problem with dogs? I don't want one either. I'm just wondering what it is that you get freaked out about. :) Germs, hair, everything? lol..

Thank you for wishing me some sleep.. so far, none.. she woke back up and is eating again.. :)

Hey Daphine,

I love the pictures of Gucci. He is too cute. I love the little collar! Don't feel bad girl, I don't like being licked either. Maybe he'll grow out of that. It's nice that you have made such an effort for the sake of your girls. I am proud of you!

That Gucci is a real sweetie, you can post pictures of him every week! I think Dirk is happy to have another guy in the house now! And to see him with Dirk's grandpa is so sweet. Daphine, you've come a long way in a week's time. Both of the girls just look so thrilled.

As far as the doggy germs go--I'm not a big fan of being licked on the face by dogs, but for licks on the arms, legs and hands--please remember that God has created us with awesome immune systems way strong enough to handle dog germs. In fact, I've read that it's actually more dangerous to be bitten by a human being than dog because human germs are worse. God will help you to handle it Daphine!

You can post as many pictures of Gucci as you want! He is adorable. I understand how you feel about the licking though, our dog is 12 and it still kind of yucks me out! :)

Your girls look like they are really in love with him. And I love the picture of Grandpa with the puppy!

he is super cute! and about the licking- you don't have to like that part! i love dogs, but i do not like when they lick me-blah! my parents dog- a golden retriever loves to lick your legs and he would always lick mine right after i shaved & put lotion on, so of course i would break out where he licked me! GRRRR. yeah, it's gross! so don't "make" yourself like it! it's ok not to like everything about the cuteness that gucci is! i'm very proud of you though!

Edie said...

Oh I love these. Please do keep us updated as to your progress. I'm so proud of you and praising God so much.

Don't worry, you don't have to let Gucci lick you. Lots of people, including dog lovers don't like to be licked. Have a great weekend!

Gucci is SO cute! And you're certainly facing your fear head on, I'm very proud of you! You certainly are an inspiration for me to look inside myself and face my own fears.
I've really enjoyed seeing all your cute pictures of your family with your newest little fur baby member so don't worry about if you happen to make posting about Gucci a regular thing cause I'm loving it.

I think you may have just been replaced by Gucci. Does Dirk hold you lovingly like that in his arms? Oh, I'm only kidding with ya! I know that Chris and Bella, especially, have this "thing" going on. She loves him way more than me...and I'm the one who does the most for her! Oh, the nerve of her!

Gucci is just a precious little puppy! Those pictures of are so adorable...of everyone! I'm telling you, your girls get prettier all the time!

So, are you going to purchase a Christmas gift for Gucci? We've already put gifts under the tree for Maddie and Bella. In fact, I'm going to try to post a video of Maddie with her presents. It's the funniest thing!

I'm so proud of you, Daphine, for opening your heart and home to Gucci. You're doing just awesome!

He is too cute! I wonder if we will get our own "gucci" at Christmas. I hope so. Kind of. :)

Wow, you have come a long way! I'm very impressed. Gucci is adorable.

Jenn said...

Wow, you can stand by the dog without freaking out. Most people reading this blog probably don't realize just HOW HUGE that is for you! However, I can still remember a teenage Daphine running back into Sonic freaking out because there was a dog outside...lol!

That's wonderful that you are doing so well with Gucci Daphine, and yes, God is good!!

And don't fret so much over the licking, I can't stand dogs licking me either...I always train my dogs not to lick people!!!

Alicia The Snowflake said...

I think Gucci is taking over your house ;o) But I am so glad that God is healing you. He is an amazing God!

And I don't mind the pictures of Gucci. He is a cutie! But he's not quite as cute as your girls. They are precious!

Beth E. said...

Awww...such cute pics of Gucci! And, yes, you HAVE come a long way. :o) We have a dog, and I'm not fond of the licking, either. But, I've learned to tolerate her licking my hand. I just go to the sick and wash right after!

Might I offer a suggestion regarding your girls' arguing over the dog? When our boys were young, we used the "odd-even days" system. One has odd days, the other has even days. On their assigned days, they get to spend time with Gucci...This also works great for other decisions. Who gets to sit by Mom? (Whose day is it?) Who gets to choose a special treat? (Whose day is it?) Who gets to take a shower first? You get the idea. The arguing was greatly reduced in our home...hope this helps!

Daphine, Gucci is absolutely adorable! That little collar is so cute on him, too. What a sweet baby!

I have read something about dogs having an antibiotic property in their tongues. I know that people who have pets actually live longer. It's a proven statistic. And there'a also something about pets and people destressing. So, he's a healty thing the Lord gave you. :-)

If it makes you feel any better, I have kissed both dogs and horses! LOL! When I was little, we had both, and I just loved them to pieces. And parakeets... forgot about those.

You will be fine. God will slowly but surely make you feel better and better about him being around you. I am the most germ concious person on earth, but when it comes to dogs, I'm not. Some germs you do need to watch out for (and I wash my hands a lot... Mr. Magpie's grandfather was a surgeon, and he said that simply washing your hands could cut out a mulititude of diseases). I believe that's true, but he also loved animals.

Give it time, the Lord will work with you on it, and that dog is going to love you to pieces... and you will love him more than you ever thought possible.

This time next you, you'll be putty in hiw paws! ;-)

Xo,

Sheila :-)

You've got one cute dog!!! I'm proud of you for trying so hard... I'm afraid I wouldn't be quite as open as you have been to adopting a four-legged friend. But seeing your family's smiles... that's worth it, isn't it?!

Gucci is such a cutie! I'm sure the novelty of him will wear off soon and the girls will fight less.
What a lucky lil dog he is!

Hia daphne thanks for visitng my blog. Gucci is so sweet! With the licking, your girls will probably be healthier for it as they are being exposed to some germs and will build up an immunity. In a Bronze Age re-enactmentlasting several weeks, some children of the original 1970s participants had far less imunity to general germs from the living conditions than their parents did because of things like new super duper cleaners and lack of "mucky" experiences. By allowing Gucci to lick, you really are helping your girls.

He is an utter sweetie. :-) He sounds quite sensible in thinking that his crate is a safe place where he can go to chill. One of our dogs Precious will still take herself off to her crate when she wants peace, and she is the boisterous one! LOL Love his clown collar and his gorgeous little face. :-) Well done for getting a dog even when you aren't keen on them. It was brave of you but you have done a wonderful thing that will help your girls grow in all sorts of ways. :-)

Anyway, Gucci is absolutely precious and perfect for your family. I'm so glad the potty training is going well. You'll get used to the licking and he will probably do it less over time. :)

Daphine, I want to say thank you for the sweet Thanksgiving greeting you left for me. I was sick with the flu for a couple of weeks and have totally neglected blogging until today! Gucci is adorable and your girls are so beautiful! We have two Yorkies...love them, hate the licking!! I hope you and your family have a blessed Christmas. And please visit my nest soon for a Christmas decor tour of my home!

You can post about Gucci as often as you would like. I love seeing the pictures and hearing about your "deliverance". It's wonderful! Sorry the girls are battling, but I guess it kind of goes with the territory of a new "friend" in the house. That will subside as time goes on and then they'll fight about who HAS to take care of him. Anyway, great to read about the progress. I am really so proud of you. I know how huge this is. Way to go, Daph!
