A Careless Mishap!

A couple of days before Christmas, I did something so careless that it was by the grace of God that I didn't have to face a potential crisis and especially right before Christmas.

I'd planned on making my Italian cream cake for a Christmas lunch. I stopped at the grocery store to buy pecans and a couple of other items. Unfortunately, when I got to the baking aisle, I quickly realized that they were completely sold out of pecans. So, my thinking was if I'm going to have to go another store to buy pecans...just do all my shopping at one store and at one time. Sooooooo, I pushed my buggy to the side and proceeded to walk out the store.

I got to the exit door and then thought that there may be pecans in the produce section. So, I walked over that department. Sure enough, they had a whole pallet of pecans. More expensive than I wanted but, to save time and to keep from making another stop, I took a few minutes to pick out just the right package of pecans. Yep, they all looked the same. lol!

After grabbing a package of the pecans, I walked back to find my buggy that I just casually pushed aside. Not only did I find my buggy, I also found my PURSE that I'd left in the buggy!!! I could not believe that I had done this! Needless to say, this shook me up a bit. I just wanted to sit in the middle of the floor and cry right then. I kept asking myself, "Are you kidding me? Did this really just happen? What was I thinking?" I knew that it was just another way of slowing me down. And believe me, it did! I slowly continued my shopping filled with numbness and confusion.

Looking back, and as I type this, I am thankful again that the Lord had my back, as it really could have been a disaster.

See, I told you that I had a mishap, too! I just had to tell you about Dirk's first. lol!

LOL, you are too funny!! Praise the Lord that your purse was still there when you returned.

Here's a tip in safe guarding your purse:In lieu of children, I put my purse in the grocery cart seat, and buckle it up. If anyone tries to steal my purse, he/she has to spend a couple of minutes trying to unbuckle the belt.

Oh, Daphine...that is totally the Lord!!!!!!!!!!!! I know, with the busyness of the holidays, I can surely understanding being in a hurry! There are many times I walk out of a store wondering if I put my debit card back in my wallet, cell phone in hand, etc. It's so easy to get caught up in the moment!!

God was totally watching over you, girl!!!!!!

I feel my heart skip beats when I think I have lost something that important, so I totally get it when you said you wanted to just sit down and cry. Thank God for his protection on our stuff too!

This brings back memories of the time I sat my purse down on the bumper to put my groceries in the car. A man got out of his car and took my purse. I never had sat my purse down before then. I ran after him, we fought, and I finally got my purse back. I didn't have any money, just my debit card, id, and social. Plus pics of my girls. I don't carry my social or pics on me anymore. He did the same thing to another lady later that day and then he stole a car from a man. Thank goodness I was able to id him, and the man is in jail now. It was broad daylight and people were walking all around us too. Criminals don't care anymore.

So, thank goodness the Lord was looking out for you that day!! I too believe he was looking out for me, just in a different way. I learned something about myself that day....I never would've thought I had it in me to fight back, but it was my instinct. I bet you would've kicked butt too if someone had gotten your purse! LOL So glad it didn't come to that!!

Daphine,

That's just terrible. I am so glad that when you went back it was still there. I can imagine how shook up that you were. The good Lord above was definitely looking out for you.

Wow Daphine that is crazy!! God was watching over you for sure. My wife is always walking off when we go to the store for groceries and if I walk of from the basket just 2 to 3 feet boy dom I get it if she sees me as whe is coming back. this is due to the fact that she always leaves her purse in the basket too. Im glad no one took it.

My mother in law just had her wallet stolen and they have had problems ever since. Having to cancel cards, checks, their water got turned off because of the accounts that had to be closed and a miscommunication between them and the munincipalities. What a head ache.

Good guess by the way on the sleepover pic. It was the third girl from the left in pink. Did you see all the pics from their big day on my daughters page? If not there was some really good ones.

Take care and God Bless.

I've done similar things, Daphine, and I'm always in a panic when it happens! LOL! I'm SO glad your purse was safe when you found it. :-)

Wishing you a Happy Sunday...

Sheila

I am so glad that you went back and found your purse! God was definitely looking out for you!

I did the same thing at Home Depot - but luckily it was only my keys that I left in the basket. I was feeling guilty for leaving my basket there that I walked away so fast and forgot them! Then, I had to go back and find them!

Daphine,

I'm so glad the Lord protected you when you needed to be protected! I do what Jean does...I buckle my purse up...if nothing else, it will slow a thief down!

Happy Sunday, my friend. Abundant blessings to you!

Oh my goodness, how scary! Nowadays people steal your purse when you are right there. That was such a God-thing that nothing happened to it while you were nowhere near it!

Phew! How scary!

Oh Daphine I am so glad your purse was still there. I think we have all done silly things and not been able to believe we did them afterwards.
Enjoy the remainder of your weekend.

Wow, you are so lucky. Acutally Blessed! God was calling you back to find your purse. This is the very reason why I never, never put my purse in the basket. I always carry it with me throughout the store. The trick is to not carry such a big purse you get tired of carrying it. I try to keep mine managable.

Wow..good thing God reminded you of the produce section. :o)

I've done things like that and just can't get over how bad it could have been, but wasn't. I'm so glad it worked out okay for you!!

We've all done that. It's because we have too many things on our mind. Glad you got your purse back.

Daphine,

Beleive me, I have pulled plenty of doozies just like that. As I often say, you are not alone!!! It's so easy for something like that to happen when your mind is in a million and one places and you're trying to get everything accomplished at once. You're HUMAN, my friend...things like that are gonna happen! At least you didn't back your car into your daughter's boyfriend's car...like someone else we know!!! Sorry, I just couldn't resist! My apologies to Dirk! :)

Happy Sunday, girl! Don't worry about the Christmas card and e-mail situation...I UNDERSTAND!!!

Wow, I'm glad that this didn't turn into something worse. It could have been a real disaster!

Thank you for the comment. I think I have had to deal with things far beyond my young age of 21, but I am proud of it. :)

I'm so glad your purse was still there. I think that's just another fine example of how we always have too much on our minds. Do you agree?

One time I left my purse in the car for the 20 seconds it took me to pay at a gas station (Dallas). Truthfully I didn't even think a thing about it - wrong move! It was gone in a heartbeat. It's not fun to lose it!!

I'm so glad you didn't lose your purse. I was just talking with the girls about how we pray when we can't find something, and ask God to show us where it is. Today we were talking about how God will sometimes bring the place to mind instead of showing us. He did have your back, and thankfully you were listening. :)

Pretty scary, but so glad your purse was there when you got back to the buggy.
I've done similar things like that as well and I can't help but think it's God's way of telling us to slow down and pay attention and stay in the moment as much as possible! God Bless!

I am so glad that your purse was still there! Don't feel badly~ this kind of stuff happens to everyone, I think! I have done it before way more than once. :) Now I usually use this knap sack thing so it's always on me because I hate carrying around purses and I can get forgetful!

God was taking good care of you! :) I can't tell you how many times I breathed a prayer of thankfulness and relief in this same situation! :)

I have been so blessed to never have had my purse stolen or my home or car broken into. I know it strikes fear into my heart at the very thought of someone snatching my purse while I'm shopping. I try to pay attention but sometimes I'm lax...
Wishing you a wonderfully blessed week!

Oh that's terrible. I have become a little paranoid and have started carrying my purse through the store. But I like Jean's idea @ buckling it up. I might try that.

Take care my friend! I hope you don't have any more mishaps!

My wallet either got lost or stolen on Christmas Eve. It has been VERY stressful to say the least! AND EXPENSIVE! I had just gotten Quince's son's gift cards to Best Buy and they were in the wallet. I had to play $25 to replace my liscence. I had a gas gift card in my wallet also, and money for Kaishon's counseling session...

I am glad to hear yours was not lost! PHEW!

I think we all have moments like that. Don't beat yourself up too much. You're mind was obviously on making the perfect cake for your family!

You know what my husband did? He managed to lose his debit card AND driver's license for 2 weeks. He knew that he last used them at a restaurant, but he thought for sure that he had them in his wallet after that. Finally after tearing the house apart yesterday, he finally listened to me and called the restaurant. Sure enough they had both license and debit card. What got me is that they didn't even bother looking us up in the phonebook and let us know they had it!

It's all good. We got them back. Hopefully he learned a lesson.
