It Finally Happened!!!

I am several posts behind, but for now I thought this would be the perfect one to share with you tonight.

To those of you who are new readers and who are not aware of my past fear with animals, I have allllllllllllllllllllllmost conquered this fear completely. We got a puppy back in December and as I write this post and look back on the first night that he came home...

I remember the pictures I posted of me wearing gloves because I didn't want to touch him with my bare hands. I remember at times sitting high up because I didn't want Gooch to jump up and touch me. I quickly (later the same night we brought him home) adapted to touching him without the gloves! lol! Unfortunately at times, I have the personality of, "get it all over with at one time." Meaning, once I knew that it was destined for me to be over this fear, I wanted to jump in deep! I wanted to be an instant dog lover! I wanted to be able to walk down the street with my puppy in my bag. Uh...not really! Anyhow, I wanted to be able to sit, hold, and walk our puppy. Right before Christmas, I'd mastered all of these wants except for holding Gooch. I just couldn't get up the nerve to hold him until the day after Christmas! God is sooooooooooooo good! I NEVER dreamed that I would even like a dog ... much less love one.

Hooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwever, I have come to love my Gooch! And guess what? I think that he may like me more than anyone else in our family. LOL! He's at my feet all the time. As I am typing this post, he is lying here on the floor at my feet. It's happening just like some of you said it would. And no, he's still not allowed to lick me. That ain't gonna happen! And that I know!I might eat these words one day, but I don't see it happening in the present, near and far future.

Okay, I wanted to show you proof of me holding him. However, I DO NOT like this picture at all! I am wearing an old granny robe that was given to me by Dirk's grandmother like when we got married (almost 18 years ago). It goes all the way to the floor. I usually wear it in the winter ALOT to keep warm! Jae asked me earlier tonight when I was wearing it if it was one of those cover up blankets that they sell on tv? Yep, it's big, old, covers every part of my body, and keeps me warm. I can totally see why Jae would ask the question!

I have no idea why I feel the need to explain to you why I look so horrible in this picture. lol! I know all you cared about was actually seeing me hold my Gooch.

So...................here goes!

See how excited Gooch looks?

How sweet are you two?

Now you need to give him a big ole' kiss!
It's fine. Dogs mouths are cleaner than humans. LOL!

You look gorgeous FYI...

Daphine!!!! That is awesome!! But girl you crack me up giving an explanation as to what you are wearing!! You always look good! LOL, but I do understand..I really do!! You look like a natural with him!!!! I'll never forget the GROSSEST thing I've seen on TV. It was the David Letterman show and they had a segment on people and their pets doing these one of a kind tricks. Anyway, this guy gulped down some milk, layed down on the ground, opened his mouth, and then his dog proceeded to drink the milk out of his mouth!!!!!!! Is that nasty or what? I'm pretty sure you would never do that!! L0L!

Lee said...

Yay! I hate dogs licking too. So don't feel bad about that.
It's nasty.

And that picture is cute! I don't know what you're talking about!

Daphine,

I am so proud of you holding little Gucci. You look like an old pro. I don't blame you about the licking though. I can't stand to be licked by a dog. BTW, you look great in your robe...:o)

Hey, how are you doing? Hope all is well. Great to see more people in an interracial relationship. I am too! So, it's great to see more people and such

First of all...what are you talking about??? You??? Look horrible??? NEVER gonna happen! And, please, don't invest in one of those blanket things (Snuggie?) sold on TV? They are hideous and we laugh everytime we see them on TV! Oh....please forgive me if you already have ordered one! :)

I am so very proud of you, my friend, for all the huge steps you've taken! That's BIG! Just look at the two of you all cozied up together! Didn't I tell you that it would be LOVE??? Come on now, let Gucci give you a big ol' sugar!!! :)

What a beautiful photo of you and your little guy.

I have two maltese boys. I'm a huge dog lover but I had an overwhelming fear of cats for most of my life until about 8 years ago and now for the last 6 years we have a cat from the pound named Mommy. I could share some 'fear' stories with you from back on those days but GOD IS A DELIVERER!!!

Enjoy your precious one.

P.S.You look beautiful! No worries!

He is adorable! I think dogs have a natural instinct about who is the "Mom" and know how to work it!

Hello Daphine#
I am so happy to hear that you and Gucci are such good friends now. When I read your post last year about getting a dog, I felt just like you. We have no plans to get a dog but I would be just like you with the gloves if we did!!! I think it's wonderful how you have overcome your fear, there is hope for me yet! The picture of you two togther is wonderful. It's a beautiful picture I really do not know why you don't like it. You would look good whatever you were wearing.

So sweet!! I knew you would grow to adore Gooch!! He knows who takes care of him too - that's why you are his favorite.

Guess what - I have a granny robe too. My husband thought that I am much larger than I am or else he didn't bother to read the label and bought me a huge red robe probably 10 years ago. I wear it all the time in the winter cuz it's warm. :) We can't be glamorous all the time.

Woohoo! Look at you! I'm very proud of you. :o) That little dog will grow even closer to you as time goes by.

As far as the robe goes...I have microfleece pj's AND a big ol' granny robe! I also have a big fleece blanket. Winter is such a romantic time. haha

You look beautiful in the picture...and Gucci is adorable. :o)

Blessings...

his face in this picture is priceless! you two look so happy together :)
oh and you look great as usual! no one would even know it was an old granny robe. it looks rather hip in the picture!

Oh Daphine that is soooooo sweet!!

Congrats on overcoming your fears. It doesnt really matter what they are or how pointless some may think of them, until you have them you cant really understand. I know how much it took for you to do that.

WAY TO GO!!!!

Melissa is right by the way, dogs mouths are cleaner than humans. Not that that will inspire you to let Gooch give you a BIG sloppy one or anything, but dogs do love to show their affection to us in this manner.

Love and Prayers,

Tim

You are just adorable! I am proud of you for overcoming your fear. Gucci looks like he loves you a lot!

Haha. That cracked me up about your daughter asking if your robe was that thing they sell on TV. I have a robe that I wore at the hospital when I had Boyd, and my husband laughs at me in it. But you know what, as long as it's comfy I'm ok with it!

Way to go Daphine... I'd say you're both the "lucky one" because you have each other's love and affection.

You don't look bad at all! What are you talking about? Im so happy that you've gotten over your fears. That is great.

Congratulations! You've obviously come a long way.

I love big old bathrobes. I have an old winter one too! I would love to have one of those Snuggies.

So proud of you...I still need to work on that too. Gucci is so cute! No joke, as cold as our basement is...I want one of those snuggie robes on TV. LOL

That is so wonderful and you have only more wonderful to come from that little guy. The people who never know the love snd joys that come from a pet, well I feel sorry for them because they will truly miss out on something this old world had grandly to offer. If I were there, I would take his little face in both of my hands and give him a big old smoocherroo right on the face. I kiss my Abby all the time, right out of pure love for her. I probably kiss her 20 times a day. I am so happy that you are loving this dog. you have know idea yet how deep this l;ove will grow. It will, just you wait and see.
God Bless,
Shanda

Hey, a girl should be able to wear her Granny robe in her own house and be comfy any time she wants, right?! You look great!

Lorrie said...

Woo Hoo Daphine! Congratulations! I just love, love seeing this picture. The expression on your face makes me so happy. Gucci looks very matter of fact about the whole thing. As for loving you best--dogs know who their mama is! LOL for the explanation of your bathrobe--I think it looks just great.

Who cares about the robe! You look skinny! Your face does : ). Skinny is always good! No matter what clothes you are wearing!

So Kaish acually wants one of those Snuggli robes from tv. He loves infomercials and wants just about everything he sees. It is so funny! He keeps saying, "Mom, it is one size fits all. From the largest grownup to the smallest child. Oh please can I get one?" He is too silly! : )

Gucci is adorable too!

Neabear said...

Yay!!! Good for you! Gucci can sense your love. That is why he is at your feet.

Tarah said...

I think you look fabulous in the old robe. I would never have known it was a granny robe if you hadn't said anyting. :)

Way to go girl.

Happy Thursday...You bless me so!

You always look mahvelous! I love the name Gooch too, it really fits him. I have a boxer named Laila and I'm totally with you on the licking thing! I love her but I don't want any of that doggy drool!
I'm glad you're conquering your fear.

Look at you!!!!! You are holding him...and with your bare hands. Yay!!!! Praise God! You have come a long way in a short time. Way to go, Daphine. And the robe...you can't even tell from the picture that you are wearing a robe. You are so silly.
